Extending time for claim

Chief Constable of Lincolnshire Police v Caston [2009] EWCA Civ 1298, TLR CA 26 January

There is no principle of employment law which dictates how generously or sparingly the power to enlarge time limits is to be exercised. For example, the lodging of notices of appeal at the Employment Appeal Tribunal has led to a policy of the consistently sparing use of the power to extend time. However, that has not happened in relation to the power to enlarge the time for bringing proceedings in the Employment Tribunal.
