Recent developments at IMO
The International Maritime Organization is the forum for developing and adopting conventions on maritime and shipping. Two recent developments ought not to pass under the radar, namely the entry into force of the SUA Convention and SUA Protocol 2005, and the adoption of a 2010 Protocol to the HNS Convention 1996.

HNS Protocol
The International Convention on Liability and Compensation for Damage in Connection with the Carriage of Hazardous and Noxious
Substances by Sea 1996 was adopted as long ago as in May 1996 to provide a liability regime for damage caused by hazardous
and noxious substances (HNS), inspired by the success of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund.
