£9,500 settlement for slip and trip

A woman who fractured her hip after tripping over a poorly maintained grate in the road has received £9,500 in an out-of-court settlement. The victim had been walking to a nearby shop when her foot caught on the sunken drainage grid in the middle of the road. She fell to the ground and fractured her hip. She had to then undergo a procedure to fix the fracture using screws. She had to use crutches for the six weeks that followed and it took four months before she was able to put her full weight on and move her hip. The local council admitted liability.
