£3 million settlement for birth delay cerebral palsy
A man who suffers from mixed quadriplegic cerebral palsy has won a settlement of £3 million. He was catastrophically injured
during his birth. Delays in his birth resulted in cerebral palsy. His lawyer argued that the hospital failed in its duty towards
him by not making it clear that his mother should have been taken directly to the Central Delivery Suite (CDS), by not transferring
her immediately to CDS as soon as she arrived at the hospital, and by not ensuring that she was seen by a Registrar immediately,
and by delaying her emergency caesarean by carrying out an unnecessary vaginal examination. The settlement of £3 million is
made up of a smaller lump sum and annual payments for life.
