Strictly private: corporate investigations in Italy

The feature of Italy’s privacy laws that often worries corporate executives the most is the attribution of criminal liability
for a breach. In one widely publicised case, three Google directors were convicted in 2010 of breach of privacy. The
New York Times reported on 24 February 2010, “In Milan, Judge Oscar Magi sentenced the Google executives in absentia to six-month suspended
sentences for violation of privacy.
