Hadi v A-Z Law Solicitors [2012] EWCA Civ 143; Solicitors Journal 20 November

Abdul Hadi had been working as a solicitor for A-Z Solicitors in Balham, before he was dismissed, but the nature of the employment was ‘neither here not there’. After a four day trial at Central London County Court in March 2011, the recorder awarded Hadi damages of £1,200 and costs of £22,000. The solicitors appealed on the grounds that the recorder showed ‘bias and partiality’ in the way he handled the trial.
