IMO and the challenge of sustainability

This year’s self-declared priority for the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is “Sustainable development: IMO’s contribution beyond Rio+20”.

The slogan is in fact the proclaimed theme for this year’s World Maritime Day – which will take place on 26 September 2013 – but, as stated by IMO’s Secretary-General at its recent launch, it will serve to define the main direction of the work of the Organization for this and indeed coming years.
