“SIGNIFICANT” STORM HITS KANSAS, COLORADO
At least 50,000 homes and businesses in Kansas remained without electricity yesterday after a powerful winter storm hit the US plains last week. National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Blair said that it was “a very significant storm. It’s in the record books”. The storm, which had stretched from Canada to Mexico, left the region yesterday, after causing at least 12 deaths. Albuquerque received two feet of snow, while more than 18 inches of snow was recorded in the Oklahoma panhandle, putting 5,000 homes and businesses into darkness. In Nebraska some 15,000 homes and businesses were reported to be without power. The remains of the system brought rain from Florida to New York, plus snow in parts of New England.
