£7.3 million clinical negligence compensation
Clinical negligence compensation totalling £7.3 million has been awarded to the family of a teenager who sustained brain damage
a few days after his birth. He will require round-the-clock care for the rest of his life as he suffers from cerebral palsy,
epilepsy and developmental delay. He was born with heart problems and underwent surgery which was successful – however, the
ventilator he was fitted with subsequently was not properly adjusted for his needs. The settlement includes a lump sum and
an index-linked instalment on an annual basis. The NHS trust denied liability but agreed to settle the claim.
