FBI warns of cybercrime risk with IoT devices

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned companies and individuals to exercise caution when using Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as internet-connected door locks, webcams and office equipment, like printers. The warning, in National Cyber Security Awareness Month, is that IoT devices “like any device connected to the Internet, can serve as jumping-off points for hackers and other cyber criminals to get at your most sensitive files and information”. The FBI issued a five-point checklist to minimise the risks:
