New test to put brake on car emissions fraud, says European Commission
The European Commission is counting on a new real driving emissions (RDE) test to prevent a repeat of the Volkswagen ‘defeat
device’ scandal. Following a meeting on 29 September 2015 with the VW brand chief Herbert Diess, European Union (EU) industry
Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska “highlighted the importance of the new emission test procedures, reflecting real driving
conditions, that will enter into force in January,” a Commission spokesman told Fraud Intelligence. He added that the RDE
will “minimise the risk of the test results being manipulated in the future”.
