This book provides a useful account of the application of Arts 85 and 86 of the EC Treaty to the insurance industry. It is not intended for specialists in EC competition law, but rather for insurance professionals in insurance and reinsurance companies and for insurance lawyers (whether in-house or in private practice) who need to know how the EC competition rules impact upon the industry. The early chapters of the book introduce the reader to Arts 85 and 86 and the consequences of their violation. In Chap. 5 (exemptions under Art. 85(3)) and Chap. 6 (the block exemption conferred by Commission Regulation 3932/92 on agreements in the insurance sector) the reader at whom the book is aimed will find much helpful detail about particular individual exemptions that have been given in this sector and the impact of the block exemption.
