Recently, the shelves have been groaning with books on the conflict of laws. From the mighty tomes of Dicey & Morris to Jaffey’s Introduction to the Conflict of Laws with Cheshire & North’s Private International Law and books by Collier and McLean in between, not to mention those addressing specific areas of the subject. Where does this one stand? It is primarily a student textbook which would, at a pinch, double up as a primer for a practising lawyer. The practitioner wanting chapter and verse will always reach for the familiar rule-based Dicey & Morris. A very good student
