This is an ambitious work. It aims, as described in the preface, to give as concise an account as possible of both the law and the practice of international trade for businessmen, students and practising lawyers. That it succeeds to a considerable extent is praise in itself. That the reviewer is left with some misgivings is perhaps inevitable.
The strength of the work lies in its breadth. In under 800 pages one finds a treatment of a remarkable diversity of topics. The opening part on sale of goods embraces a rare discussion of countertrade and chapters on product liability and invoices and packing. The discussion of obtaining the buyer’s agreement to the seller’s terms benefits from references to the laws of Texas and Italy. The second part of the book, relating to marketing, is highly recommended for its clarity and practicality. A range of financial arrangements are covered in Part III, while the treatment of insurance, carriage and litigation (Parts IV–VI) provides a well writ
