Lloyd's Maritime and Commercial Law Quarterly

BOOK NOTICE - MARITIME LAW (3RD EDITION)

MARITIME LAW (3rd Edition) by Christopher Hill, M.A., F.I.C.S. Lloyd’s of London Press, London (1989, xxxii and 408 pp., plus 8 pp. Index). Hardback £25. The third edition of this book essentially updates the previous edition (reviewed fully in [1986] LMCLQ 400). Most significantly, it includes the Merchant Shipping Act 1988, which, the author remarks, revolutionizes registration of ocean-going ships in Britain. The other major statute is the Pilotage Act 1987, “which does what all previous Pilotage Acts seem to have done—consolidates everything which has gone before”, an evaluation which is likely to astonish not a few pilots affected by the reorganization of the industry effected by the legislation.
