As one of the fastest developing shipping nations in the world, and one of the newly industrialized nations, Korea has experienced in microcosm many of the difficulties besetting international shipping, including: appreciation of domestic currency; foreign demand for the opening of the domestic shipping market; crew demands for better wages and working conditions; and increases in containerization and intermodal transport.
