This is the first edition of a handbook which is intended by the publishers to provide a guide to insurance law and practice throughout the world. One hundred and twenty-two countries are included, and for each country there appears a brief outline of the sources of laws affecting the regulation of insurance companies and the contents of insurance contracts, followed by the names and addresses of supervisory authorities, insurance and intermediary bodies and law firms specialising in insurance practice. Appended are a chronological list of EEC directives, the names and addresses of the leading international insurance organisations and a bibliography.
It is intended by the publishers to produce annual new editions of the handbook, increasing the countries covered and the range of information provided, and the publishers specify that any suggestions to increase the value of the handbook in its future editions will be welcome. To start the ball rolling, perhaps the editors would like to check up on the date of the United Kingdom Marine Insurance Act (page 124) before going to press again.
This little volume will undoubtedly be a most useful starting point for reference for all those with international insurance and reinsurance dealings.
