BOOK REVIEW - “TRADE WINDS—AN INTRODUCTION TO THE U.K:S LAW OF COMPETITION”
By Ann R. Everton, LL.M., Ph.D. Published by Alan Osborne Associates Ltd.
Paperback £1.95.
“No system of competition law has ever been famed for its simplicity”. So states Ann Everton in her new work “Trade Winds”. This little volume is a neat and concise introduction to the English law of competition—a subject affecting the whole community with its economic, legal and domestic facets.
The author states that her intention is to give a general view of the subject matter and in a very few pages she does this admirably—although in somewhat over-elaborate English.
The explanation of the development of legal control over monopolies and restrictive trade practices and the present structure of that control is concluded with a look into the future. The main text relates to English law but includes reference to the relevant provisions of the Treaty of Rome and the United States’ “antitrust” law.
The author closes her work with a statement which almost compels the reader to search for more information “… antitrust is an area in which but one thing is certain: it will not stand still”. Should Dr Everton wish to provide us with that information in the future it will be very welcome.
