MALACCA STRAIT LEGISLATION

Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia have signed an agreement on the safety of navigation in the Malacca Strait. For a fuller report see under “Legal, Maritime and Commercial Notes”, on page 464.

SCOTLAND

The Damages (Scotland) Bill, which implements the Report of the Scottish Law Commission on the law relating to damages for injuries causing death, amends the law relating to such damages and defines the rights of an injured person which are transmitted on his death to his executor. The Bill also clarifies the law on the assessment of damages in respect of loss of expectation of life in an action brought by the injured person.

SEYCHELLES

The Seychelles Insurance Ordinance 1976, which contains provisions relating to the carrying on of insurance business in and from within the Seychelles, is to come into operation on such date as the Cabinet may, by order, appoint. It contains provisions relating to the registration of insurers and the financial requirements for registrations; restrictions on statements, advertisements, security of life policyholders; provisions relating to insurers who are members of Associations of Underwriters; provisions relating to insurance agents, brokers and salesmen; administration and general provisions.
