Damning verdict expected on railway crossing accident

It is likely that a “damning” verdict on safety standards at a railway crossing will be delivered following an investigation into the deaths of two teenage girls on the track, caused by an express train. A report into the deaths of the schoolfriends is likely to criticise Network Rail’s risk assessment procedures and will probably demand immediate improvements in safety at 13 similar pedestrian crossings. The report will be published in November by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB).
