Page 7 CHAPTER 2 Ships Ships 2.1 The CMC 1992 covers legal issues of ownership of ships, mortgage of ships and maritime liens on ships. Ship registration is regulated by the Regulations on the Registration of Ships 2014. 1 This chapter mainly discusses the ownership of ships, ship registration and ship mortgage. Maritime liens in article 22 of the CMC 1992 are given for five classes of ship debts: (1) seamen’s wages, (2) loss of life or personal injury, (3) disbursements, (4) salvage, and (5) damage by ship. The enforcement of maritime liens are introduced in Part II.
