… AS US SENATE MATCHES HOUSE’S FOUR-MONTH EXTENSION TO NFIP

The US Senate on Tuesday voted 86-12 to extend the authorisation for the NFIP through November, matching similar approval passed by the House of Representatives last week. Congress’s move thereby avoids a lapse in the programme, which was scheduled to expire yesterday. However, the extension to the NFIP authorisation was not accompanied by any proposals to reform the debt-plagued programme. Congress has failed to pass any reforms for several years and has instead passed six short-term extensions.
