Alternative capital, in the form of insurance-linked securities (ILS), collateralised reinsurance, sidecars and other capital
markets-backed structures, expanded approximately 9% to reach $97bn (see chart) at the end of 2018. Growth has dampened slightly
in 2019 but is expected to return during 2020.
