TYPHOON KAMMURI HEADS FOR PHILIPPINES
Typhoon Kammuri is expected to make landfall in the Philippines during the early part of this week, with the storm tracking close to the capital city Manila. Kammuri, which is known locally as Tisoy, is expected to strengthen to the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane prior to landfall. The southern part of Luzon, the country’s most populous island, is expected to receive between 20cm and 30cm of rainfall. Flash flooding and landslides could result, with thousands of people facing mandatory evacuations as the storm approaches. The storm could bring disruption to the 2019 Southeastern Asian Games, a regional athletics tournament featuring around 8,000 athletes from 11 participating nations.
