War risk insurance – which includes both hull and machinery insurance and cargo insurance – insures the value of ships damaged or destroyed by acts of invasion, insurrection, rebellion, hijacking and terrorism. War risk insurance is linked uncontrollably with geopolitical conflict, which directly shapes policy terms and availability. This article will explore the extensive effects of recent geopolitical conflict on war risk insurance, both currently and in the future.
