The UK P&I Club’s loss prevention team look at IMO 2020 and safe LNG bunkering practice

With the advent of the 2020 global sulphur cap regulations, marine engine manufacturers are developing ship engines capable of using alternative low-flashpoint and low-sulphur fuels as a way to meet the stringent environmental requirements. Inevitably, this will lead to a surge in demand for liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel within the shipping industry, and so it is important shipowners, and the sector in general, are fully informed on how this shift will affect day-to-day activity such as bunkering.
