Freeports – has UK Government recognised the risks?

Asthe UK Government looks to expand free trade opportunities following Brexit, writes Ruth Paley of Eversheds Sutherland, it has launched a consultation [1] on creating up to 10 freeports with specialtariff and duty status. With a commitment to announcing confirmed locationsthis year, ministers argue the plans will fuel growth, but critics say theycould attract money launderers if risks are not properly considered.
