Enclosed space initiatives underway
New initiatives have been launched to give greater emphasis to the ongoing risks of enclosed spaces onboard ships, reports
the Ocean Technologies Group (OTG). The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has proposed changes to regulations
on commercial fishing vessels following the death of a crew member aboard the UK-registered Sunbeam. It has made a recommendation,
that was accepted by the Maritime and coastguard Agency, to apply the Merchant Shipping (Entry into Dangerous Spaces) Regulations
1988 (SI 1988 No 1638) to all commercial fishing vessels.
