Solicitors’ complaints
Reporting that the number of live complaints on file at the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors (OSS) have fallen below
8,000 – with a target of 6,000 by year-end – the director criticised the continuing behaviour. Some firms, he said, were still
flouting practice rules on claims handling, ie through late response to letters. Further, 80% of those firms with the worst
complaints records still lacked an inhouse complaints procedure. Despite this, most law firms seem to have eventually found
PI cover on the market. Only 29 have entered the assigned risks pool.
