“Vnuk is an unnecessary and impractical ruling which, by the government’s own estimation, could increase UK motorists’ premiums by £50 a year by picking up the cost for accidents involving racing cars, lawn mowers and quad bikes on private land. The MIB has been keen to work collaboratively with the government from the outset. Despite several previous public commitments to do so, the government hasn’t taken the action needed to remove Vnuk for UK law. That is why the MIB took the decision to commence litigation against the government. We believe this is the only way to ensure it does the right thing and properly deals with this damaging ruling. We’re calling on the government to act now, to remove this ruling from UK law and save motorists from this unnecessary cost. We stand ready to support in any way we can.” – Statement from the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB)
