Billion-dollar Bikini

The Nuclear Claims Tribunal has ordered payment of US$1bn to people of Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands in respect of ‘damage, loss and hardship’ suffered as a result of 67 nuclear atmospheric tests in the 1940s and 1950s. But the US has only provided US$90mn to the tribunal to cover compensation.
