Claim for damages in respect of defective work – Entitlement to terminate the contract – Existence of a valid variation – Strict approach to interpretation of termination clause

The claimants brought an action against the first defendant in respect of building works carried out at their home. They sought to recover damages in respect of what they alleged to be defective work carried out by the first defendant and they also sought to recover the cost of completing the works after the termination of the contract with the first defendant.
