Navigator Aries was a liquefied gas tanker with a gross registered tonnage of 11,311 mt. Leo Perdana was a container vessel with a gross registered tonnage of 27,104 mt. On 28 June 2015 the vessels were travelling on reciprocal courses in the Surabaya Strait, Indonesia, a narrow channel. A collision occurred just before midnight. Both vessels were badly damaged and a fire broke out on Navigator Aries.
