“Shipton” relatives to sue GMC

Relatives of the more than 200 victims of former doctor Harold Shipman are preparing to bring action against the General Medical Council (GMC). This will allege negligence in failing to strike him off the medical register in 1976 following his conviction for obtaining and misusing prescription drugs. They will also allege negligence in the GMC’s failure to monitor his performance, given that he was not struck off.
