Foot-and-mouth disease

A plethora of reports on the handling of last year’s outbreak of foot-and-mouth (F&M) disease in the UK have appeared in the last few weeks. The over-riding diagnosis is that management by all agencies involved was fragmented, confused and inefficient and the major recommendation that lessons be learnt. The chances of this, on past and present performance, are remote.
