Exxon not to pay additional expenses
A US$12.7mn claim from six municipalities, filed soon after the 1989 oil spill by the
Exxon Valdez
, dismissed in 1994 and reinstated in 1999, had amounted with interest to US$30mn. Now an Alaska Superior Court jury has found
that Exxon does not have to pay this additional clean-up money, having sufficiently reimbursed the communities for the spill
and having spent US$3.5bn in cleanup.
