Austrian ski train fire

The trial of 16 people accused of causing the deaths of the 155 passengers when a funicular train caught fire in a tunnel at Kaprun has commenced, two years after the event, in Salzburg District Court. Train officials and inspectors face charges of negligence “leading to a fire” focusing particularly on the installation and servicing of an illegal heater in the driver’s cabin, lack of fire extinguishers and emergency hammers, and jamming of the train doors.
