Sex abuse hikes liability rates

Revelations about child sex abuse of Roman Catholic priests in the US, and expectations that raised public perception will lead to additional claims in this area, have prompted a sharp increase in premiums, and coverage limits, on liability policies for schools, summer camps and childcare centres. A typical broker has reported premium hikes of as much as 125% for summer camp and childcare facility cover. Other insurers, including AIG’s Morefar Marketing division, have withdrawn entirely from the childcare market.
