CHAPTER 1 Introduction to the law of insurance causation

Hume suggests that our conception of causation, resemblance and contiguity are the foundation of all our reasoning concerning matters of fact and are “to us the cement of the universe.”1 The relevance of causal notions to our judgements in daily life is complex. Focusing on the relevance of causal connection to legal responsibility, causal notions in general have “very deep roots in all our thinking and in common ideas of when it is just or fair to punish or exact compensation.”2
