Carriers not liable for discrepancy between shippers' declared weights and containers' verified gross mass

In this case, the consignee commenced proceedings in the UK Commercial Court against the carrier on the basis that the carrier had issued clean bills of lading despite a significant discrepancy between the shippers' declared weights and the containers' verified gross mass (VGM). The court examined the extent of a carrier's obligation to verify the weight of containers against details provided in shipping documents and dismissed the consignee's claim against carriers.
