Progress of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill
A Private Members' Bill described in the media as the "Assisted Dying Bill" has passed its second reading in the House of
Commons and is going to the committee stage in 2025. The long title of the Bill is "A Bill to allow adults who are terminally
ill, subject to safeguards and protections, to request and be provided with assistance to end their own life; and for connected
purposes". The votes at the second reading after a free vote unrelated to party politics were 330 in favour to 275 against,
and the debate, which lasted for five hours, included emotional speeches from both perspectives.
