New memorandum of understanding issued by DHSC

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has issued a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) for investigating healthcare incidents where it is suspected that criminal activity might have contributed to death or serious life-changing harm. Where patient deaths or serious harm result from suspected criminal acts or omissions by healthcare staff, several different agencies can be involved. Examples include deliberate harm or care which is so grossly negligent as to amount to a crime.
