South-east Asia quake could lead reinsurers to review risk models
Last month’s south-east Asian earthquake is expected to have limited impact on international re/insurance markets but could
lead
carriers to review risk models, experts said. The 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Sagaing Fault in central Myanmar, with an epicentre near Mandalay.
The quake caused damage in neighbouring Thailand, where a skyscraper under construction for the government auditing office
in Bangkok collapsed. As of April 2, a Myanmar opposition outlet put the death toll in that country at nearly 3,850.
