Innovation and digitalisation of ports and ships under the new EU provisions

The European Parliament, in its resolution on distributed ledger technologies and blockchain,1 highlights the capacity of such technologies on mobility and logistics. This article analyses how crucial distributed ledger technologies and blockchain technology have been in the realisation of intelligent ports as well as the deployment of shore-side electricity supply at ports (cold ironing), focusing on innovation, digitalisation and adaptation of ports and ships.
