Personal Injury Assessment Board for Ireland

Ireland’s Personal Injury Assessment Board (PIAB) was launched last month. The PIAB is to act as an independent assessor in public, motor and workplace liability claims. By avoiding compensation cases and legal fees, it is hoped that the board will bring about lower litigation fees and ultimately reduced insurance premiums. Irish tanaiste Mary Harney said that “the sole aim of the PIAB is to eliminate expensive litigation costs and so to deliver compensation to claimants more quickly and more cheaply than in the past”.
