Union presses for investigation into safe manning levels

Shipping Minister David Jamieson has revealed that the UK government has begun a major investigation into safe manning levels. The National Union of Marine, Aviation and Shipping Transport Officers (NUMAST) raised renewed concern at the failure to act on the recommendations made by a Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) safety report highlighting the role of fatigue and reduced crewing in groundings and collisions.
