Spain: a man trying to put out a blaze threatening his home became the third person to die in the dozens of forest fires raging
in north west Spain, many started intentionally, according to the Spanish government. The man’s body was found in the Campo
Lameiro area of the region of Galicia. The regional government referred to arsonists taking advantage of scorching summer
temperatures which have dried out woodland as “fire terrorists.” Two women were killed when their car failed to outrun a forest
fire in Cerdedo. Local media said about 5,000 hectares caught alight and the Galician government said there were 134 forest
fires.
