24.1, detention

Philippines: the Philippine Coast Guard released ferry KC Beatrice after it was detained for several days at Zamboanga Port. KC Beatrice was detained after two cargo inspectors were killed by toxic fumes when they entered the vessel’s cargo hold a week earlier. The vessel was docked at Zamboanga port when the accident occurred. The Coast Guard had originally planned to detain the vessel and its crew until the origins of the toxic fumes could be determined. It was decided to free the vessel, however, after the shipowner promised to present the crew to the Special Board of Marine Inquiry investigating the case. The vessel is owned by Zamboanga city-based Sing Shipping Lines.
