Mapfre further consolidates leading position in Latin America
The acquisition of Real Seguros will give Mapfre a 23% share in each market • Mapfre leads regional ranking
Mapfre paid US$16.5mn for the operations of Real Seguros in Uruguay (US$7.5mn) and Paraguay (US$9.0mn). The seller, Dutch banking
conglomerate ABN AMRO, is focusing its strategy on its core business, divesting itself of its non-banking activities. Real
Seguros was part of the Dutch group since it merged in 1999 with Banco Real of Brazil.
