Montpelier Re continues to extend the volume and the types of US based business written by its
Lloyd’s based operations. As with the two Montpelier US business divisions, Brokered Property Facultative and Property Treaty, which
the group launched in August, the business produced by the newest division, Direct Property Facultative (DPF), will be sourced
under the auspicious Montpelier Underwriting Incorporated (MUI) and written in the
Lloyd’s market by Montpelier syndicate 5151. Initially, the DPF division will operate from an office in Kansas City. Stan Kott, chief
executive of MUI, said that the new division will underwrite largely non-catastrophe property business, characterized by large
limits and low frequency, produced directly from US insurers. The division will be headed up by Doug Johnson while Doug Duddleston
will serve as vice president and senior underwriter. Both men were previously employed by
Catlin Underwriting and based in Kansas City.
